Two years into the life after Covid, pandemic accessories have now become a mandatory item when going out. These trinkets are not mere trends, they are necessary for the sake of “flattening the curve”. Consequently, Protection gear or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has now possessed a central role in our everyday life. It includes wearing masks, mask chains or straps, and carrying sanitizers everywhere.
In early 2020, beauty, fashion apparel, and footwear are among the most affected sectors by the pandemic. Mostly it was because the pandemic had, in a way, people evaluate their priorities. Mark Cohen, said to CNBC that in the face of global crisis, things like fashion apparels and accessories have significantly ceased in value.
“Do you really want to have that handbag to wear to a party? It’s $6,000 and you can get it for $1,000 now, but you’re not going to that party, there is no party.”Mark Cohen, the director of retail studies at New York City’s Columbia Business School
Even events as festive as Halloween are still celebrated remotely and with strict health protocols. And understandably so, because obviously people are not willing to forsake their well-being for looks.
In desperate attempts to crank up sales, many fashion businesses resorted to monetizing pandemic accessories. Of course, this includes SMEs who are now in a race to come up with their “upgraded” pandemic products. Luxury brands are also quick to read the room and started to include health-protocols-abiding accessories into their clothing line.
Consequently, pandemic accessories are now the “easy” cash for many in the fashion industry.
Many have realized that washing your hands and wearing masks are not necessarily a hindrance to your activities. In fact, how many of you have got the flu since the pandemic first broke out? Yes, influenza has suddenly disappeared from earth, although some of its variants have started to resurface.
This means that despite the horrible horrible things that have happened, the Covid prevention protocols do promote a healthier lifestyle for all. And when we are are getting out of this (hopefully soon), people who have enjoyed the benefits of pandemic accessories will likely keep them as a lifestyle.

Indeed, things are rarely stagnant in life. After all, who would have thought that 2020 marked the beginning of a new era for the fashion industry? Anyhow, as we move forward and at constant threat of new disease, staying safe and healthy has to be our top priority.
