Director Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers is about to be another epic after Jonathan Anderson confirms his participation in the production as its costume designer.
After the success of Call Me by Your Name, Luca Guadagnino is cooking up another release called Challengers. As expected, the film will feature big names such as Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist
It will be an epic drama about tennis revolving around a sports-star-turned-coach named Tashi (Zendaya). Tashi’s husband Art (Mike Faist) is a world-champion who begins to lose his spark. Having fallen to the lowest ranks of the professional tennis world after a series of woeful games, Faist ends up confronting (in the tennis court, of course) Tashi’s ex and his own ex-pal, Josh O’Connor.
Jonathan Anderson is not the first person in the fashion industry to make the jump from catwalk to costume. In fact, Challengers will see Anderson join the likes of Miuccia Prada (The Great Gatsby, Romeo + Juliet), Jean Paul Gaultier (The Fifth Element) and Craig Green (Alien: Covenant).
Currently filming in Boston, even Anderson himself cannot hide his excitement for his newest project. He wrote on his Instagram post, “[I’m] very excited to be working with my dear friend Luca Guadagnino on costumes for his new film Challengers, such a dream.” Guadagnino is no stranger to the fashion world as he previously worked with Valentino for his short film The Staggering Girl.
Anderson has always been known to have enjoyed cinema. His favorites are famously films from Studio Ghibli and John Waters. If anything, Loewe’s latest collaboration with Spirited Away is another proof for the designer’s undying love for everything Ghibli. And since Challengers will center around sports, fans have been looking forward to seeing Zendaya in stunning athleisure-inspired outfits.
