Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty line goes beyond selling makeup

Singer and actress Selena Gomez has been a beauty icon ever since she was a kid. From starring in children’s TV shows to her teenage years as Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, and now as a beloved pop icon, the Mexican-American is recognised for her stunning, wholesome features and warm personality.

So it makes perfect sense for her to get on the beauty bandwagon too! Following an announcement of her very own makeup line named Rare Beauty in February earlier this year, Selena has officially launched her makeup collection, which sells exclusively at Sephora USA. With the aim of ‘breaking down unrealistic standards of perfection’, the brand aims to provide a feel-good makeup experience that lets you express who you really are, without the need to conform to society’s term of beauty.

In a statement, Selena says, “These products aren’t about being someone else, it’s about being who you are, whether that’s rocking a full face of bold makeup or barely any makeup at all. Makeup is something to enjoy, it’s not something you need. I want every person to feel beautiful exactly as they are.”

As for the products, what we’re seeing is promising. There’s so much to love about it. There’s a full range of 100% vegan and cruetly-free face, lip and eye makeup that were carefully formulated and tested, as well as chic beauty tools that ease makeup application. The foundation shade range goes up to 48, which like Fenty Beauty, is well above the industry standard. What’s even better is that 1% of all product sales and funds raised by partners will go toward Selena’s Rare Impact Fund that’s been established to help address the gaps in mental health services for underserved communities. A rare initative indeed!
